Michelle makes pregnancy look glamorous!

And her kindness, generosity and inner beauty run deep.

I've love being her friend and photographer.

I enjoy watching her family grow.

We've taken Fall pictures over the last few years and I love that she is creative and willing to work with me to get the best pictures.

A couple years ago, we (Michelle with her husband and two little kids) trekked up a half mile path to get family portraits near a vineyard with the changing leaves in the background.

Here are a few pictures of our hike:

Behind Michelle's family is the Vineyard and the classic rolling Appalachian hills.
The leaves are beginning to change from green to golden hues as the evening sun creates dramatic shadows on the trees.
Mike and Kathy Seiler, owners of Appalachian abbey, let us take shots at the top of this hill.

Right now, she is taking on another adventure that is supporting and encouraging moms, with young children, in the Zanesville area called MOPS. She is one of the co-directors this year.

I met Michelle through MOPS when my youngest was about 6 months old..so that's about 4 and a half years ago! That group was the relief I needed. It can be so challenging to move to a new city with young kids. I needed adult conversation and the break from watching my own kids for the 2 hours that we met every other week. It was so validating to hear other moms had the same struggles I had. Listening to their solutions and just talking about my challenges liberated me to be a better mom.

I think Michelle makes a wonderful co-director of MOPS and she looks great doing it too! Here, look at some of her maternity pictures we took at her home in Zanesville:

Genny and Devon's Wedding in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Yes, I love putting my hair in curlers! One of my favorite parts of photographing a wedding is being able to dress up!Here's what I looked like at the Wedding:

Anyway, I love spending time with Jim. He is a wonderful. He does so much for me and Desired Focus Photography. I got to sleep most of the way to and from Pittsburgh and was fully charged for the Wedding.Genny is incredibly beautiful.

I melt when I see this because they are so happy to with each other!

It's a good thing pictures aren't like kids, because I pick favorites! This is one of my favorite favorite favorite images!

It was incredibly windy, blow fake eyelashes off windy, on Genny's wedding day and we really, really wanted to do group shots outside. Instead we took the more formal and casual shots inside. Here are some goofy, meaningful, and neat photos:

The pastor marrying them didn't want me moving much during the ceremony so I got a few shots during the ceremony and then we redid the kiss and ring shots afterward.

Laura and Josh' Engagement Session and Laura's Bridal Session in Zanesville, Ohio

I loved working with Laura and Josh!

For their engagement session, we met at Mission Oaks. This is a beautiful garden open to the public in Zanesville, just off Norwood Blvd.

The day we met was hot and very sunny. With all the bright green foliage, it felt so humid too. The intense sun challenged us as we went from shady to sunny spots every few seconds, but we made it work!

Here are a few of my favorite images from the day.

Laura and Josh were incredible! I am amazed at how many great images we got in the short time we had since they had to get back to D.C. quickly.

About a month before the wedding, Laura came back to Zanesville, and we had her bridal session at her grandmother's home. At first we just took pictures inside the house. I wanted to give Laura exactly what she wanted. We took some formal ones, but I want you to see my favorites.

I love how happy she is in her beautiful dress!

Below is happy accident. Shooting in low lighting conditions can be very challenging. Sometimes blurring can be very artistic and beautiful and so I included this unique image.

These next few images are the ones I wanted most! I love how bright the light is behind Laura's head.

OK..so you know how I said, we started inside? Well, after we were done with the more formal portraits and our session was officially over, I started to get in my car and drive away! But I couldn't. Her grandmother's home is beautiful and I noticed the beautiful stone wall that I passed as I was leaving.

I ran from my car as fast as I could to the house. Laura had already gotten out of her dress. I was so relived and happy when Laura agreed to get back in her dress to shoot some images outside!

John Moore is now offering a photobooth!

My friend, John Moore, is a DJ and he has recently added a service he offers for events like Weddings! He has a photobooth! The images above were taken with it! I was impressed. It looks very sleek and beautiful. It's shiny and black and even has a beautiful black curtain.

John told me the photo booth does more than just give guests a print of their session, it also gives his clients a copy of the print too! And the photo booth stores all the data from each image so the bride and groom can have the JPGs of their guests on a flash drive by the end of the night! This way the bride and groom can make prints of their own too. They can even enlarge the print bigger than an 8X10 and it will still look great because the images are high resolution!

On Friday, I got to do my first maternity portrait session! Tiffany has worked with me as my second shooter and now I get to take pictures and be her photographer! It's kind of fun!
Actually, I got a little nervous before the photo session because she knows a lot about the technical side of photography. However, I calmed my nerves and had a blast.
Her children are so full of life and out going.
I love their little smiles! I can't wait to meet baby David!

I've been watching clips from Bravo's Double Exposure on Hulu.com. Even now, as I type this post I'm still listening to the show! :P
I just came across a clip that may help people feel more comfortable posing in front of the camera. For the most part, I just want the children, families, engaged couples, brides and grooms to just be casual, comfortable and most of all enjoy themselves. However, some people may want some extra tips for "posing" in front the camera.

The Zanesville Country Club has delicious food and beautiful views and lighting!

One of the couples that hired me to cover their wedding is having their reception at the Zanesville Country Club.
I wanted to know what the lighting will be like when I cover their event so I called, Tiffany, the event coordinator at the Zanesville Country Club and asked her if I could do my research for the couple. She was friendly and helpful.

I wanted to help brides who are looking at venues get a feel for what their event could look like at the Country Club. So, I offered to shoot an event at the Country Club so she can have some images to show clients.

She invited me to cover the Martini Night that was just a few days away. I was so excited and when I got to the Country Club I was amazed.

The food was beautiful and tasted incredible!

Adam, the bartender, made excellent martinis.

The golf course was vivid and green.

I saw the room that the reception will be in for the upcoming Wedding and it is perfect because the walls have floor to ceiling windows allowing golden sunlight to shine on the guests! I am so excited to get vibrant images because the lighting will be so beautiful!!!

One thing I love shooting at weddings is the "getting ready" stage of the day. I love creating albums that represent the whole day and not just formal portraits. I love the story type feel in an album!

I love seeing brides get their make-up done and the excitement as they put their wedding dress on. I love it because these brides looks spectacular and often emotions of anticipation and wonder come out.

I love this picture of Krisha before her wedding ceremony. This is just a few minutes after I arrived to the hotel.

Here is the before picture.

I gave this picture my signature enhancement and smoothed out her complexion just a little.

Here's a picture of the first time Krisha saw her dad on her Wedding day in her wedding dress! I love how deeply she loves her dad and how meaningful this is to her.

Sometimes, the daylight can be so harsh that it can almost ruin an amazing moment. I touched this picture up so that you can see more of her face and less harsh shadows. I also evened out her complexion and straightened her teeth.

Here's a picture of Krisha getting her hair fixed right before her wedding ceremony at the train station in Dresden, Ohio.
We took formal portraits with her bride's maids and family and my favorite: artistic editorial style pictures! This was at the train station which is just a few steps away from the Dresden United Methodist church where she had her ceremony.

Here is a before picture. Krisha is glowing! It's so exciting right before the ceremony and I love that intensity!

I straightened her teeth in this image and smoothed out her already amazing complexion.

I used to feel strange about giving these celebrity style enhancements because we are all created beautifully and are amazing! Then I thought, "Hey, we constantly look at flawless images in magazines. The truth is these models who are beautiful on their own, have had tons of photo shop enhancements to make them look even more perfect. It's really not fair that we look at a picture of ourselves and see the pores, the dark circles under our eyes, the wrinkles and the big zit that just had to show up that day of all days and compare ourselves to this perfect image. Why not represent how you felt on that day and look amazing in your albums, on your Wall Portraits! That zit doesn't represent you! Why should it be something you should be concerned about hiding all day when you want to be in the moment of love, commitment and joy!"

I hope you get images of true excitement and love and silliness and happiness on your Wedding Day while looking beautiful and amazing!

I posted one picture of a beautiful model from the Wedding expo. All the models were fun and beautiful!
I had such a great time!
Jessie at the Welcome Center asked me to shoot this Wedding Expo and I am so thankful that I did! I was able to have a booth, meet brides, get to know models (one of them was on America's Next Top Model) and get to know other photographers and Wedding Vendors.
I can't wait to start interviewing and really getting to know the Wedding vendors and the models!!! I hope I will go out to lunch with a lot of them too! Ok, maybe just coffee or tea but hanging out is the important thing!

Hi everyone! I have been busy putting photobooks together for the Weddings I recently covered, shooting family portraits in Zanesville of couples and families from all around Ohio and enhancing the images! I wish I could show you everything, but since it is a new year, I just want to share something new that is fun, relaxing and inspiring.
I'm an artist and I get to use a camera to photograph interesting compositions, colors and emotions. However, I'll show you some of my artwork that isn't from a camera!
Here is something I made with my daughter. I am so amazed and thankful that she and I can share this passion.

I love working with the staff at Florafinos! I'm always encouraged whenever I see Greg, the owner. When Tess, Greg and Laura's assistant, delivered these flowers to the Dresden United Methodist Church for Krisha and Les' Wedding, I was so amazed that she recognized me. She did a great job with these flowers! I also noticed that she didn't just drop the flowers off, but she made sure that the bride and groom were happy.
I definitely recommend Florafinos because every bouquet that I have photographed has made me want to get married all over again, just so I can enjoy their gorgeous work! I am so amazed by all that is available now!
(I even changed my whole philosophy on flowers! I used to tell my husband to never buy me cut flowers because they would just die in a few weeks. Now, I long for beautiful bouquets.)

I'm so thankful to be a Photographer! I get to cover Weddings and lately I've been a Children's Photographer in Zanesville!

Sopheak came to Zanesville and I got to shoot her children's portraits. I haven't seen her in over 6 years and this is the first time I have seen her children in person. She came to Zanesville for an amazing event with her husband. My kids saw skaters up close flying through the air tonight! It was amazing!

Today, I had the priviledge to photograph a baby less than 24 hours old!!! I went on-location to the Bethesda Hospital Maternity Floor in Zanesville.

This baby portrait session was so special! I loved every second. I especially loved being with Rachel and Ben, her parents.

Here's one image that I love! I'll show you the color picture and the black and white picture!

I can't wait till baby Claire is home so we can really spend some time together and get sweet pictures of her parents and brother and sister! That will be a fun family portrait session for sure!

Here is Caryl and Ken at Sawyer Point, in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is where they had their first date! I love the directional lighting! It makes the image very powerful and dramatic!

I love this black and white image of them at Sawyer Point! I am amazed by beautiful Cincinnati! I'd love to photograph brides and grooms and luxurious Weddings and engagement sessions in Cincinnati all summer!!!

I love this shot of a Texas man's rodeo buckle!!! Why? It tells the story of what Les loves. He came all the way from Texas for this engagement shoot with his fiance Krisha!

I love this picture too because it tells the story of another thing Les loves: Krisha!

Wow! This kiss actually took place at a Dresden farm in Ohio! I love this picture because of the passionate kiss. Do you like the weeds we picked for the shot!?

I love how relaxed and beautiful Krisha looks.

Krisha and Les wanted to check out Mission Oaks and we discovered a waterfall. With the hibiscus and the waterfall, it reminded me of Hawaii! Les actually lived on Oahu so that was meaningful.

I love this picture of the guests at Marissa and Michael's Wedding at Quailcrest Farms in Wooster, Ohio. Can you see why I love being at Weddings? They are so much fun!

I love this shot because I always ask brides and grooms at the Free Consultation if they have any desired shots that they need me to shoot. Marissa found a picture similar to this one on WeddingBee.com and asked if I could replicate it. The original had bamboo lining the background but this was nice to have the repetition of the tree line and the fence.

And this shot!!? Of course, I love the flare!!! I love the moment right before a kiss too!

Wow! I've been so busy! I've moved into a new house and taken three courses at Zane State College. My finals are tonight, Monday and Tuesday!

Even though I haven't blogged much, I've had the privilege to
*get to know brides-to-be when I booked their Wedding dates and
*get to know Michael and Marissa when I shot their fun engagement session!

Michael and Marissa were up for anything and easy to get to know over ice cream at Tom's Ice Cream Bowl. They are unpretentious and sophisticated..that's pretty amazing!

Before and After! I just shot this on Monday!

Hello all! Look at the picture above! It's my good friend, Tiffany, and her daughter. We had so much fun shooting her family portrait session. When we looked at the pictures on her TV after the session we loved the images.
I want to show you a before and after with the artistic image enhancement.

This is going to get technical:
I use Corel for my post processing.
After I open an image I duplicate it so that I can preserve my original image while working on the duplicate.
When I want to edit a picture, I make sure the lighting is balanced so I adjust levels.
Then if a face is too dark, I simply erase the duplicate face area and the original is still bright.
I merge the layers and then sometimes I will saturate more of the background.
It is fun to see how amazing an image can become.

I get to shoot one of my best friend's ever tomorrow. Her name is Tiffany! We are going to do a family shoot around sunset at her mom's house.
I can't wait. She had so many creative ideas last year when I did her family portraits. I'm excited for the ideas we come up with tomorrow.
I'm hoping for an amazing sunset so that I can get some awesome flare!!! If the sky is overcast, I really hope the sky looks amazing!

Photography Class for South Zanesville Youth

Last Saturday I taught my first class. Since 1999, I've had a desire to help kids feel accepted, loved and also help them learn skills like photography.
Finally, a young girl asked me if I could teach her how to take pictures. I knew that this was the perfect time in my life to do it, so I agreed and I asked her to invite everyone she thought would be interested.
Last Saturday, she and her sisters came to my class where they learned the very basics of learning how to use a camera and perspective. I gave them an assignment to take a self-portrait that was unique. Today, I get to view their work!
They said "this was fun!" and that they had learned a lot!
In my class today, we will review what we learned last time and talk about capturing motion and a little about exposure.
My class is at 10:30am! That's less than an hour and a half away. I'm excited!

How'd my Crest White Strips?

YAY!

Oh, how did I like the Crest White Strips?
Ease of use?
Super easy and convienent! I could put them on in a flash and keep them on while chatting on FaceBook or putting my make-up on and doing my hair in the morning. It only took a few seconds to put on and very easy especially compared to paint on teeth whiteners.
Was it painful?
Yep. At first my gums were midly irritated while wearing them. Then my teeth actually hurt during the day. I went down to wearing them once a day occassionally when the pain was uncomfortable and then was still able to go back to wearing them twice a day. At the end, I wasn't bothered much by pain.
They don't even hurt now!
Did it work?
Oh yeah! I love the results especially with my deep red lipstick! Although they aren't paper white, they are beautiful. I have been embarrassed by how yellow my teeth were before and never thought I could afford teeth whitening. I love the results!
Is it affordable?
It cost me around $20 and compared to getting your teeth whitened by a Dentist that is super affordable! It costs a lot of money to have the Celebrity treatment on your Wedding images. Why not just spend a fraction of that and look good for years instead of just in your pictures?

You are beautiful and you are worth every penny spent on bringing it to the surface!

Crest White Strips Update, snow days, movies, Zane State

"Ooh" My teeth are aching.
I just woke up and all I can feel is a pulsing pain in the front of my mouth.
I really want white teeth, but I want to know if there is a healthier and less painful way of getting them.

School is canceled for the third time in Zanesville today. I've been on vacation mode with my kids all week. It has been so nice to sleep in and watch TV with them.

Yesterday, I finally got up the courage to go play in the snow. It all started when I went to check the mailbox for any new mail. I saw my neighbor cleaning the snow and ice off of his SUV. I just started pealing the ice off my van. It was so amusing to see huge slates of ice just peal off my van that I stayed out for about 15 minutes. When I realized I was out there that long and wasn't freezing, I realized I could dress my kids in layers and winter gear and have fun in the snow.

Even though it took about 30 minutes to get them dressed, it was so worth it. I had fun breaking up the ice and packed snow on the sidewalk in front of our house while they played. I don't have any tools to remove the snow because we live in a neighborhood that pays for people to take care of our grounds. I just used my heal of my shoe to bust up the ice and then I just swept the snow to the side with the side of my shoe. It was so easy.

I watched two good movies last night. One I was very surpised that I even watched it because I just don't get into Westerns. It was Apoloosa. My husband has a Choleric personality and that is they same personality that the main character had. It was really a way of getting to know my husband more and the story turned out great. The second movie had Luke Wilson in it. It's called "Henry Poole is Here." I cried throughout the movie over and over again. Finally, when it was over I remembered how much I want to help people know God. I prayed for God to use my to bring healing to the hurting, his salvation to the lost and hope to the hopeless. My passion to help the hurting was revitalized.

I feel like I've focused on so many important necessary things like raising a family, building a photography business and just day to day living that it is easy to forget to reach out to those in need.

I guess I am already aiming for that though. I just enrolled at Zane State for their Early Childhood program. I'd like to open a daycare in the Putnum area to help families who need Childcare get what they need so they can start working or going back to school.

I've decided to not take any Wedding dates while I am in School. I've had to turn away so many prospective clients away because I will not sacrifice how much time I will give to my clients and the quality of the work I create. Right now, I am taking Wedding dates for February, March, June, July and August of 2008 and the Summer of 2009.

Does it work?

I love trying new things and finding out how they work. So I thought I'd start posting my new experiences because I know Brides want to look their best for their Wedding day.
I just tried Smooth Away. I bought it because I was out of razors and Smooth Away looked fast and easy and just cost a little more than razors.
I recommend that you save your money on this one. Even after using it as directed there was still hair on my legs. Even where the hair was removed, when I gently ran my hands on my legs, I felt spiky hair!
It wasn't faster than a razor. It was kind of scary because in the directions it stated that if I would rub the pad over my skin too much I could cause an abrasion! I didn't want to hurt myself! At least with a razor I rarely cut myself. It wasn't easy. Now my legs kind of hurt too. Stick to whatever is working for you.
I plan to take it back in the morning! I sure hope the drug store will give me a full refund.

What do I want to try next? Airbrush make-up and getting my teeth whitened professionally or using drugstore applications are two things that I want to do when I can afford it.

Just moments ago, I filed my sales tax for Desired Focus Wedding Photography and got a discount for being a day early!
I am so relieved that I was able to do all that needed to be done!

Pictures from Bridal Expo at Zanesville Welcome Center!

On Saturday, I had a booth at the Bridal Expo at the Zanesville Welcome Center.
I also had the privilege of being the event photographer. It was really the best opportunity ever!

I asked Sarah, one of my previous clients, to help me and she went above and beyond! She enthusiastically communicated her experience with all the brides. I was so thankful that she loved me as her photographer so much that she was trying to get others to book me too!

I was able to take pictures of other vendor's booths and get to know the business owners too. It was an answer to prayer!!! I am so thankful that now when someone books their reception at the Longaberger Golf Club or orders their flowers from Imlay Florist, they can now recommend me! I loved meeting other photographers too. I can't wait till we can get together and help each other out!

This Thursday night I am trying to make it to my Pictage Users Group in Columbus. Pictage is the professional printer I use and they encourage networking with the photographers who use them, I really hope that some of the photographers I asked to come with me can come!

I got to take pictures of Mrs. Ohio and other pageant winners too. I began thinking about entering the Mrs. Ohio pageant in like 10 years when my kids can take care of themselves as I travel around Ohio for expos like this. My husband just thinks it's not really practical for me to do because he has an amazing plan for us to help the people in our community and wants me to play a vital role in it! I love him!

I still need to edit so many pictures, but I'll just put a few in this post a few now.

Revolutionary Choices!

I had a great mom because she taught me by example how to help others. She really sacrificed everything for me and my 3 brothers and 3 sisters! My dad died when we were all young and she did everything she could to take good care of us. When I helped around the house it felt so rewarding and satisfying to see her have a little relief.

I am still a person who loves helping others. I love giving people choices. I love helping dreams come true.

I have never seen this Revolutionary Choice given to couples before like offering the Wedding Day coverage options or Enhancement Styles. I just thought, it only makes sense to give someone the desire of their heart for their Wedding Day.

This revolutionary choice that I'm offering is liberating for me because I don't have to assume I know what a couple wants. A couple will only have to choose what they want and not have to pay for something they don't want!

I love it because I don't feel taken advantage of if a couple could only afford a few prints and I spent 3 months enhancing their images at the price of shooting a Wedding and those few prints they bought. It's really nice because if you only want a Natural style, you won't feel frustrated that it is taking so long to enhance the images in a way you don't even care about!

Anyone else struggling with their New Year's Resolution?

I want to exercize 4 times a week.
I want to eat about 5 servings of fruit and/or veggies a day.
I want to drink 8 glasses of water.
I want to get 8 hours of sleep.
....hm..
I haven't done but one day of exercize this new year but I am doing good with the fruit and veggie part!
Drinking water..haven't focused yet and sleeping..well, it's just too much fun to have fun! (I got to sleep in when my daughter's school had a two hour delay.)
I'll keep trying because these aren't just desires they really need to be priorities in my life. I believe that if I slack in these areas, it will end up hurting me in the long run.
How about you? Are you struggling too? Or are you doing an amazing job so far?

Mike and Marissa's True Love Story

Here is the True Love Story that Marissa sent in to become one of the finalists for the Wedding Photography Contest!

I'm very excited to enter the Desired Focus Wedding Photography contest. My name is Marissa and my fiancee's is Michael. We are set to get married in Wooster, Ohio on July 11, 2009.

Michael and I went to high school together. At that time, he was one of the popular kids. I was in band. Needless to say, we didn't really talk to each other too much. Michael graduated the year before I did. Our paths in life did not cross for four years. Separately, we both went through a couple major relationship failures leaving us tired of dating and lacking hope in finding the perfect partner. Four years after Michael left high school, I had just finished my junior year in college. I was working in a shoe store for the summer and was up on a ladder cleaning shelves in the back of the store when I heard a familiar voice mingling with my manager's voice. I was curious to see who it was, so I climbed off the ladder and was a bit surprised to see Michael standing there looking at shoes. It was a bit surreal to see him there; I wasn't too sure he would talk to me or remember me.

To my surprise, when Michael's eyes met mine, he didn't hesitate to strike up a conversation. I don't remember a whole lot about it except I found myself attracted to him, but I quickly dismissed the feeling because I figured he was in a relationship. I remember wishing that I had worn something a little nicer. At the end of our conversation, Michael leaned forward and initiated an awkward embrace that confused me. I wasn't sure why he was hugging me--we weren't really friends in high school and as aforementioned, we hadn't been part of the same social group. I didn't know Michael outside of that high school identity and my reactions to our brief interaction were a result of this. I watched him walk out the door, and the encounter kind of shifted to the back of my mind. The next week, I moved to Orlando for the summer--and I had failed to tell Michael this in our short, awkward conversation. After I left, Michael returned to the shoe store a few times to look for me. I was never there, and he was too shy to ask anyone where I went or how he could get a hold of me.

At the end of July 2006, a few months later, Michael found my e-mail address listed on the internet, and he sent me an e-mail telling me that he thought I had a beautiful smile and had always found me beautiful. I was shocked. I didn't know how to respond. In short, after much debate of what to say, I replied to his e-mail and when I finally returned to college in Ohio, we went on our first date in the middle of September. We were quickly inseparable despite the obstacles between us, including but not limited to: an hour drive, my senior year of college and educational obligations, and his full-time job at the bank. After the first hour or so on that first date, it was apparent to me that Michael was going to be my next big thing in life--and I had no idea how right I was. We did everything you're not supposed to do when you start dating someone. Our first date was nine hours long. He showed me pictures of his family vacation. We shared a first kiss. And then a second. He called me that same night. By the third date, I had cried in front of him and on the fourth, when I cried again, he told me he loved me. And with snot running down my face as he said those three words, I had no choice but to believe him.

Michael brings out the best in me, and I'd like to believe that I do the same for him. Both of us came into our relationship with baggage and some damage that we thought was irreparable, but together we have been able to overcome our pasts and just love each other with all we have and all we are. Being with him has made me see faults in myself that I have spent a lot of my life denying--and now I've spent time working on those shortcomings. Michael inspired me to apply graduate school and encouraged me through my stressful senior year of college. He was there to jump with me in excitement and hug me when I received my acceptance letter for the next step in my education, and he held me when I cried at my college graduation. We have grounded each other through quite a few tough times, and although I know I would have been fine on my own, I never would have wanted to go through the past year without Michael.

In addition to the deaths of two cats I was very attached to, my best friend moving and leaving school, an eye surgery, totaling a car, and every day stress in general, my father was diagnosed with cancer of his lymph nodes in 2007. Michael was there the day I got the news and I needed him more than ever. He was beside me through everything. Throughout the whole ordeal of chemotherapy and recovery (which is still ongoing), Michael was there--and he didn't have to be. He gave up countless weekends to drive to my parents' with me just to spend time with my family. He helped wash dishes, do laundry, haul in wood, and complete household tasks that were difficult for my parents to complete with Dad being so sick. He freely sacrificed his time--with no complaints or second thoughts--to be with my family and me. I didn't talk about Dad's cancer too much. And I know that when I was sobbing over a book I lost or a paper I just couldn't get started on, Michael knew it wasn't really about that--he never told me I was being ridiculous or ignored my outbursts. Instead, he wrapped me in his arms and listened to me choke my way through why I was upset until I finally got to the heart of the matter. He's patient, he's kind, he's honest, and I don't ever want to be without him again. We both went through a lot to get to each other and it only makes everything that much greater when we look at how far we've come. We've been through a lot in the two years we've spent together. We don't have too many rough times between us, but we've found that when things get really difficult, when we can't stand each other (and that's usually because of stress outside of our relationship), we just have to take some time out for just the two of us. I've particularly found that saying and hearing "I'm sorry" really alleviates the frustration we sometimes have with each other.

Together, Michael and I make quite the team, but to be honest, there isn't a lot we couldn't accomplish by ourselves that we accomplish together. I know that I would be fine on my own, but under no circumstances would I want to be. When Michael asked me to marry him, I was honored. I am honored that such a wonderful man would want to spend his life with me. Shortly after our engagement, we accomplished one big thing together that we couldn't have done by ourselves--at least, not at this point in our lives. We bought a house in June. It is something we are both very proud of and something that we have worked very hard for. In the near future, we hope to have the house completely painted and remodeled so when I move in after the wedding next year, we can just spend time enjoying each other. We hope to have a happy wedding. We also hope to have a family--but not until we've had a few years just to be with each other. More than anything though, we hope to continue to love and support each other and to remember to treat each day we get together as the gift that it truly is.

I just adjusted my prices for the New Year.
I really hope that more brides and grooms, especially ones feeling the effects of our present economy will now be able to get gorgeous images of their Wedding Day!
I know that many places are raising prices, but I changed my packages to make it more affordable.

All day I've been busy!
I was hoping for a snow day so that I could sleep in, instead of take my daughter, Naomi, to school. My daughter woke up with a runny nose and said she wasn't feeling well. Thankfully, I didn't have to go in to the school because I don't like this cold Ohio weather in the morning!
However, I couldn't just go back to bed.
I cleaned the house, folded laundry, made a doctor's appointment that took about 10 calls to finally get a receptionist to answer and made ranch chicken in the slow cooker. I started to make Sarah's Wedding Album and then I had to rush to get all three of my kids dressed so that we could go to the doctor's office.
I was about 7 minutes late! Thankfully, I didn't have to wait any longer than normal! Since I had all three kids with me, they all got their flu vaccines today! We got out of there almost two hours later.
When I got home all I wanted to do was take pictures of my Christmas tree! That is what I'm waiting patiently to do. My son, Noah, asked me to put a floor puzzle together with him and then I got caught up in changing diapers! My youngest, Josiah (Jojo), has a bad diaper rash. I was so tired when my husband, Jim, came home. I just went to bed.
After I woke up and put the kids to bed with my hubby, I finished my album.
Well, I've got to run. I want to check on them with my honey! It's so sweet to see them sleep!
Hopefully, I'll get some fun pics of the tree tonight!

(I was just preparing to put Sarah's pictures on Pictage so she and her friends can view them on-line and I thought...I really need to show you these.)

Is anyone doing anything seasonal? Today, I went over to my mother-in-laws and made cupcakes with her and the kids.

I wish I brought my camera because my father-in-law was so adorable when he was pretending to make french toast with Noah (my first son).
The Ohio State Buckeye's destroyed Michigan. (I only know this second hand. I was running to Krogers for the Cupcake mix and Crenos for Pizza and enjoying myself in the kitchen.)

I want to set up our Christmas tree tonight, but I really need to get all of Sarah's pictures on-line.

So after church tomorrow, I will try to put it up. I hope I'm not too tired.

(Yep, I have a fake one! At least I don't have to pick up all the pine needles or buy a new one every year. Too bad I can't have that fresh tree smell though. Honestly, I'd love to get a real one. I wonder if there are Christmas trees in pots?)

I believe in the school of thought that we are here to help others out.

Even though there are many photographers to choose from, I don't necessarily believe we are competing for the same brides and grooms. I believe that every photographer has something unique to offer and every bride has a unique need.

Today as I was doing some last minute research on local officials and voting issues before voting, I was so thankful that there are people who actually want to serve our communities in these ways. I know that I don't have that kind of personality, even though I have a huge heart to help people. I am so thankful that we are all so unique and we can all do amazing things in different ways.

A Good Hard Day!

Today, I woke up very early (for me at least..5:50am!) and then did aerobics with a group for the first time! It was intense! I left after thirty minutes because I needed to get home to get my daughter ready for school, but was I so thankful that I didn't have to stay for the entire hour! It was challenging.
I made steel cut oats for breakfast and added yummy pumpkin spices and sugar. I normally don't make the time for the thirty minute cooking time. However, I just let it cook while I showered and got my kids ready.
After Naomi left for school I thought I'd have down time, but I was so busy! I bought a new belt for our vacuum and replaced the old one. I hadn't even realized that the old one was broken. It could have been broken for years. The other day I had to look under the vacuum and as my curious mind wandered I unscrewed the bottom and discovered it!
It is amazing how much better and faster it works! Because I was used to putting the vacuum close to furniture and cords, today as I was vacuuming I accidentally pulled a cord up into the vacuum. Immediately, I turned it off and saw smoke and smelled burning rubber! Thankfully, the cord wasn't damaged and when I went to check if I just ruined the new belt, it was hot but not destroyed. I let it rest and then it worked fine.
(I can't wait till I can afford to pay someone to clean my house every other week!)
My boys were playing puzzles and cars while I was doing all this.
I was trying to get out the door to play hockey with them, but it just felt like one thing after another kept piling up.
I was able to take them to the park for 15 minutes before buying a couple weeks worth of groceries. They were pretty good until the end when the whining wouldn't stop. I think Jojo was feeling tired, but I can't explain Noah.
I had to rush home and put all the perishable food away and leave everything out on the counter so I could get to Naomi's school in time. When I got there I was the first car in the kindergarten lane! My kids were able to play on the huge slides and swings for about 15 more minutes before Naomi got out of school.
When I got home all I wanted to do was relax but I made a huge dinner and so I had no down time. My legs and butt are sore. (I'm happy about that!) Finally, I just sent my kids to their room so I could just veg out until I could think straight!
Now, I need to read to my kiddos (Naomi's is excited about that!) and prep them for bed!(I'm excited about that!) I have about 4 loads of clean laundry I've piled up on my bed today, that I need to put away too.
I almost forgot! I set up a prayer meeting with another mom at 8:45pm!
(Jim, my husband, and I have planned to pray tonight too. We planned on starting at 8pm. I have to stop early to call my friend. I think it should be OK because Jim's been working out hard and eating right and is probably tired! (He's lost 7 pounds in just a couple days!)) It was so refreshing last week when we prayed together. Instantly, I felt chills and knew that God was with us as we worship Him. We were able to pray for all the people Jim is helping get into College and get a job. It was so wonderful to hear from God how to pray for each person. I have longed for this since we started dating, but I never pushed him to pray with me. We always just prayed separately or together at church. I am so thankful we are doing it.
Tomorrow, I need to plan a more relax but fruitful day.

I have been editing Sarah and Steve's Wedding Pics this week and since I need some interaction between all the artistic work, I wanted to share this beautiful picture. This is a picture I love because it's simple, unique and I made it look "old fashion" with the graininess and the color.
Yay! This is so much fun for me.
The other day I was praying and I was kind of discouraged that I wasn't good at some things and then I realized that just because I might have a handicap in one area doesn't mean that I will not fulfill my purpose. I am so thankful that I found an area that I'm really good at and I enjoy it so much and I can really make a difference in people's lives through this gift. (Thank you, Jesus!)

I have great news! Desired Focus Wedding Photography is now booking Weddings for 2009!

After seeking wise counsel, I've realized that I can continue shooting Weddings if I do it with help and solely focusing on only one Wedding per month. That means I only have 12 dates available in 2009!

My Wedding Photography prices start at $3,000! (What a fantastic deal for an artistic Photojournalistic Portrait Wedding Photographer!)
I know I could charge a lot more. Since this will be my business' second year I thought I might be able to get my name out there better at $3,000 than at $6,000.

The starting price includes:
Full Coverage of your Wedding Day
by me and at least one second shooter
(Full Coverage includes preparation, ceremony, reception, formal portraits if you want them, and up to two hours shooting portraits of bride and groom)
A 20 page album
(Some photographers start their prices at $1500 and then charge $1500 for an album. I charge $3000 for my services and give the album as a gift instead of increasing my prices by $1500.)
On-line Viewing and Ordering of Images through Pictage.com for anyone you invite to view your images.
(It is so great to share your Wedding pictures with everyone. Especially the guests who couldn't make your Wedding. You also don't have to feel obligated to get pictures for everyone who went to your Wedding and your guests have the freedom to get the pictures they really want of you too!)

If you'd like an Engagement Session I will only charge $500 for the session.
(Before, I included a Free Engagement Session so that the bride and groom get amazing portraits, get to know me better and make sure we are on the same page. I know it is so vital, but I can't offer that at the $3,000 beginning Wedding Photography price. I will only charge $500 instead of $1500 for the Engagement Session since it is so important.)

If you live in a different state or are having a Destination Wedding, just add transportation and accommodation costs. I won't charge you for any extra time I take traveling to meet you, unless I need to spend more than two days traveling and shooting your Wedding. Protect our Kids!!!

I am still in shock and my heart hurts so badly for the kids who are abused and molested.

If you haven't taken a Child Safety course I urge you to do it as soon as possible. There are even on-line courses.

Last night I attended, Protecting God's Children. It was a mandatory course I had to take since I want to volunteer in my daughters class. I felt like it would be irrelevant to me since I'm trustworthy and I thought I knew enough about protecting my kids. I was blown away to see how much I didn't know. I am so thankful that I went.

I now know what to look for in a perpetrator:
An adult or OLDER Child that is always more excited to be around kids and always tickling or rough housing with them.
This person could be someone my child and I even trust. Many, if not most, cases involve someone close and trustworthy who may even have children of their own! Someone who breaks the rules and especially giving the child privileges that parents don't allow.
Many give gifts and presents to kids with or without parent's permission.
Most try to be alone with kids without other adults around.
The perpetrators that volunteered to speak on the video I watched said that they planned it. One guy even said he was very patient to gain trust and to watch for the children to see if they had needs he could validate or see how they responded to pornography.

This morning I talked with my 5 year old and 4 year old about their bodies and that not even people they trust can touch their bodies in special areas. The only ones who can wash them are me and daddy. If anyone touches them in a way that feels uncomfortable they need to say no and tell me even if the person tells them not to. I will trust them if they tell me.

I am going to be more cautious from now on. Thankfully, they haven't slept over at any one's house yet. I'm going to try to get everyone at my Mother of Preschoolers group and anyone in my church's Children's Ministry to take this course or one like it. If my kids have private lessons I will be in the room with their instructor! Even for group events like soccer practice and dance I will not leave the room or field! I will drop-in during school hours and even volunteer more!

Oh, one of the biggest things I realized is that if we only suspect abuse we need to report it to possibly rescue a child. Before, I felt that if I reporting something I had no proof of that I could possibly tarnish some one's reputation or even get in trouble myself. Now, I realize I could get a felony if I don't report it and a child is too precious to give any possible perpetrator the benefit of the doubt.

I know this is long, but so important. I have a lot better (relief filled!) news in the next entry I plan to post.

There is a time for everything and I see that is true for my photography business too.
I've realized through struggling to be the best mom, wife, friend and photographer that this is not the time for me to focus on my photography business.
I'm really sad that I can't pursue this passion of mine right now. I've really struggled to do it all. Over the last month as I have been enjoying shooting engagement sessions, a wedding and a portrait session and enhancing the images, I've worn myself down trying to fulfill my responsiblities as a mom and wife.
I'm exhausted and hurting both physically and in my heart.
I want my kids to grow up knowing that I can spend time with them and my husband to be refeshed when he comes home. Right now, I am not spending the time I desire with him even though I am having a blast having this creative outlet.
I will fullfill all the contracts I have signed. I will also still give the Free Wedding Photography Package to the couple with the most votes by December 15th.
At this point, I plan to start my business again in the Fall of 2012 since that is when all my kids will be in school and I can then have the time to focus on my business during that time.

Fun Portrait Session, Pumpkin Farm, Voting

The portrait session went well. The sky was overcast so there were no harsh shadows on the family's faces, but we were hoping for the sun to poke through just before it set so we could get some amazing flare. It didn't. :(.
The little boy did such a great job of playing with his family and making the portraits look fun and casual. (I'm waiting to hear back from the family if they will let me post the pictures. I will if I can.)
Today, I get to go to the Pumpkin farm again, but with my two older kids. It's cold right now, but supposed to get hot. It is so hard for me to decide what to wear.
I better go give them showers, dress and feed them now so we aren't late.

How beautiful to be longed for so deeply. Can you see his hand instinctively calling for her. Can you see the depth of emotion in his eyes?
I am so thankful that I got this shot! I just spent a few hours editing photos today and hope that during this week I can add more. I wanted to show you how adding a black and white image can increase the emotion in a picture because it blocks all other colorful distractions.
I am so happy for tomorrow because I get to shoot a portrait session with a family that I met while I was working at Chipotle. I fell in love with them as customers and am so thankful they want me to help them remember how precious their children are.
And I'm thankful for today because I got to play floor puzzles with my kids and just relax! :)

I just had a blast at Victoria and Bill's Wedding.
It was fun to shoot the details. The minister and bride gave me freedom during the ceremony. I was able to move around and get the best shots. If I needed the flash I could use it.
Sarah, the one who referred Victoria to me, said that she and her fiance feel so comfortable around me it's like we've known each other for life. I feel the exact same way.
Victoria's bride's maid said, "She's the photographer? She's not like mine was. She is happy!"
I felt like I had the freedom to actually have a conversation with the bride while she was getting ready. I felt very accepted. She really trusted me too! She even asked me about how much blush to put on for the pictures and took my suggestion when I asked about changing the portait location!
I enjoyed my meal and had so much fun shooting the garter scene. I can't believe this is a tradition! It's so intimate and so public!
I haven't even transfered the pics to my computer yet, but I can't wait to show you the images.

I'm getting ready this morning to shoot Victoria and Bill's Wedding. I am very excited and can't wait for all the special moments, creative angles I think of and the joy of getting that emotional shot.

Oh..if you played the game below..I definetly do not run 10 miles a day. I wish I was that disiplined and may one day be, but for now I'm not there. I used to enter road races and triatholons and I even did 100 miles on my bike, but it wasn't from diligent training. I just was in shape from High School Track and Cross Country. After having three kids, I have to get back into it if I really want to be athletic again.

1. I was a model for Senior Photos. My photography teacher asked me to be the model and my friend gave me the clothes for it.
2. I run 10 miles a day. I am training for the Boston marathon.
3. I entered a costume contest and won. My sister made the 7 of 9 costume. I just wore it.

I love learning about personalities, especially since I'm the type of person who wants to make people feel comfortable and enjoy being around me. I also hate confict, so I want to know how people tick so I don't tick them off.

I was at Mops (Mother of Preschoolers) meeting and our speaker spoke about this topic. It was so refreshing to hear about because I began to realize that my husband has a totally different personality than me! (Wake up call after 6 years!) I realized why we butt heads at times and how I can communicate to him in a way he can understand me.

Today I got a book from the library, Personality Plus by Florence Littauer. I haven't even started reading it, but I have been peeking through the pages and saw some great things. Like how to overcome the extremes in my personality and that by learning how someone is made up will help me understand why that person is doing something without feeling confused or offended.

I just had a good time with Bill and Victoria at their engagement session. I loved how much they laughed and enjoyed being together. I was startled by their huge dogs. They brought two. I was ok with that until we started shooting and they started growling and barking at a different dog near by. I didn't know what to do because I couldn't shoot until the dogs settled down and the sun was setting so fast. Thankfully some of my best shots were taken just after the sun set.

I got my new lens today!!! Yay!! I loved that I didn't even have to turn on the lights and I could take a picture without flash. However, I realized that the picture didn't have any vibrancy. So, I will still try to find goregous light before taking pictures.

My son, Noah, is turning 4 tomorrow. He is having a hard time waiting since he doesn't understand when tomorrow or next week is. I will try to put up some pictures after his party, but I don't know how soon I will since I need to finish enhancing the Vineyard directory pics, I will shoot Vitoria's engagement session tomorrow and Sarah's on Sunday!

It is such a beautiful, sunny and chilly morning in my part of Ohio right now. I got up early to make waffles. It was so worth it! My mother-in-law (yes, I have a good relationship with her) gave me a pizzelle maker that has plates that can rotate to make waffles.

My kids loved the crisp, light, sweet, buttery waffles and I really liked the cherry jam I heated up for syrup.

Oops! I almost burnt one. I am still making them. My husband, Jim, already took the kids to school and I have extra batter, so I am making some that I can freeze for later.

Oh..I am so excited and thankful...last night I was able to buy equipment I've been longing for! I bought a remote shutter release that uses radio frequency so I can shoot pictures far away from my camera!!! I hope to use it so that I can be discrete during a wedding ceremony and also get more key pictures. I want to focus it on the bride and groom and then when I see a moment just click the shutter release from whereever I am and then with a different camera have the freedom to shoot a different person like a mom or dad who is mentally letting go of their child with tears on the brink of falling off the brim of their eyelids or clutching their spouse's hand.
I bought an 8 gb CF card! That means I can shoot at least 1000 pictures at the highest quality without having to change my memory card! I am so thankful because I don't have to be conservative when choosing a shot. I can just click away and delete the pictures that don't make the cut when I am home. I am sure that I will be able to capture memories that I normally couldn't. It's also super fast in recording the pictures=more quality pictures!
I wanted to buy so much more and I will, I just need to be patient. The last thing I was able to buy was an artistic lens! It's aperture opens wide so I can shoot in low light settings without a flash. What a relief for those dark churches and reception halls. Even churches with good light are still hard to shoot without a good lens. Straight on flashes remove a lot of detail and makes the background dark. I love this lens because it will help capture all the details that you put so much care into.
I could use a bounce flash in some cases, but often the ceilings are high and some churches won't allow flash photography during a ceremony. Flash also takes away from people enjoying the moment because some people feel they have to perform for the camera when they see a flash.
I got overnight delivery for the lens and 2-3 day delivery for the CF card and shutter release. I pray that I get them before or on Saturday! I really want to use all my new toys (I mean tools) for the engagement sessions.
Well, I need to get ready. My second shooter, Tiffany, is coming over. She is very sweet and she has kids the same ages as mine. She also loves God and wants to help people too. Today, I hope to build our friendship and work together to decide how we will tackle Sarah's engagement shoot.

I never expected it to be so close!

What am I doing lately? Well..this is exciting...Sarah told her friend, Victoria, about me and she is planning to book me this Saturday and shoot her Free Engagement session then too! I am really looking forward to two engagement sessions in one weekend!

I am in the process of preparing my second shooters. It is fun to work with other photogs. I definetly love sharing what I know and I love that they help me.

I need to run to the store and get organic chicken broth. I'm planning to make some yummy chicken soup for dinner. It's a beautiful crisp day and it feels perfect for a comfort meal like this. I finally turned off the AC and opened all my windows. I love the fresh air. I am finally warming up to the idea of having summer end and fall begin. At first, I was really hesitant because I had the best summer of my life and really didn't want it to end! Now, I can see the leaves changing colors and I am beginning to remember why Fall is my favorite season. When I took a course in Hawaii, I really missed Fall! (Ooohh..I really hope I get to shoot a Wedding in Hawaii soon..the Four Seasons in Maui to be specific!)

So what did I do today? I booked Sarah and Steve's Wedding! Yay! I am so happy because our vision for the pictures is the same. They understand how important good lighting is for quality pictures and are willing to rearrange things just so the images will look amazing!

I feel so thankful that they chose me! It is such an honor to have someone use me for something that is so important and requires so much skill. Thank you Sarah and Steve!!! You made my day! I really look forward to our Engagement session next Sunday. I can't wait to take and post their pictures! :)

What have I been doing? I have been editing and enhancing photos for my church's directory. I am artistic so I couldn't stand or even think of taking pictures of people up against a white background. Our church was part of the underground rail road so using the building as a backdrop has more significance anyway. It is aging now and it has distressed character. I took pictures all over the place. I've added a few below.

I think it is vital to bless others.
I've been networking with other Wedding Vendors and I have come to the conclusion that networking is more than building relationships so that my business can succeed. I believe networking has to build friendships so we can all be successful! Success to me includes money but doesn't end there. It has to include being loved and having the ability to always help others no matter their need. (Needs go far deeper than giving money. It has to include giving talent, time and an understanding ear.)
Although, I didn't spend hours getting to know Greg and Laura, I felt their generosity and kindness in a great way. Greg generously let me take pictures of their gorgeous delicate arrangements and was very helpful by teaching me about the flowers.
I really hope that I can bless them and their business.

Today, I did a lot so that I can edit pictures, work on my logo, and post pictures in a more artistic way. It took hours to do simple tasks of downloading programs.

I am anxiously awaiting a couple's e-mail before posting the Finalists for the Free Wedding Photography. I just want to make sure everyone who entered knows that I am in the Columbus, OHIO area since whoever wins The Free Wedding Photography will pay for my transportation expenses.

Hi! Everyone!
It's Tuesday, September 16th, so all the entries are in for the Free Wedding Photography.
Now, I am going to read every True Love Story again and try to decide who the three finalists will be. I have some favorites, but I really need to read the stories again.
What else is up?
Tonight, I had Chinese Cashew Chicken. It was yummy, but nothing compared to Thai Cashew Chicken!!! I worked in Thailand for a few weeks. I ate so much spicy, sweet, delicious food! (I even tried one of their special dishes...(this is gross for us Americans) blood! It looks like brown jello. I can't believe they love this.) I have a picture I wish I could scan of me smiling with the challenge ahead. It definitely isn't the face I had afterward. Sorry, Thai people, I hope I don't offend you with my dislike for your delicacy. (Too bad I didn't try this on Fear Factor and win a Million!)
Sometimes, I think about how willing I am to try new things. I would jump out of a plane although I'd pray a lot more now because I have a family to take care of. I would go scuba diving. I want to learn how to surf even though the last time I did, I went right into coral and spiky rocks. I would learn a new language to shoot a Wedding in another country. I would not eat slugs! I heard that they can kill people after eating them! I heard that someone died of meningitis after eating one!
Hmm...I'm watching TV as I post this and lately it's all about politics. (uhh..people always say to avoid a least two things in conversation that I rarely heed...religion and politics..should I really let you know what I think?) I am still undecided. I'm thinking about going to the Democratic and Republican offices in the next few days to check out what people stand for and what they want to do. I loved what Obama said in the Democratic convention. I didn't like all the laughing at him at the Republican convention. I love Sarah Palin despite it.
I don't like the Republican focus on safety even though I might reconsider since just days ago there was a bomb threat at my children's school. I came at the moment the police, priest and principle where just finishing inspecting the building. (I actually came to get my son for a Dentist appointment. What a coincidence!) Thankfully the guy who made the bomb threat was found. I haven't heard any connection to Terrorism.
I am kind of scared to vote right now. I think, if I would have voted after the Democratic convention I would have definitely vote for Obama. Now, I'm not so sure.

Onto every day details...It's a rainy day here in Zanesville, Ohio. Naomi, my daughter and I had to run into her school this morning to avoid being soaked. Now, it's just overcast. It's actually very beautiful because the rain makes all the lush colors richer.
My boys, Josiah and Noah are rough housing with balls in my living room as I type this. I haven't even showered them yet. I better get going because I need to straighten up my house, get them dressed and get ready for Naomi's first Eye Appointment with Dr. Adornetto.
I hope she doesn't need glasses. (I need them but never wear them because they just seem to get in the way and I like the way I look better without them. I can see clearly without them. Just one eye is a little worse than the other. 20/40 vision.) When I took her to her 5 year well check up, she didn't do too well when they checked her eyes. I don't know if it was because she didn't want to do it or because she couldn't.
Ok, the boys just got out the crayons..I really got to go now!!! (They just proudly said, "Look, Mommy!" Then Noah announced, "I made this." He then directed me to say, "Wow.")
"Look, look, look." Josiah my 1 year old just insisted.
I hope they grow up to be artists like their mom!

Woah! I love reading your True Love stories! Your love is powerful! It has blessed me so much to see how you guys have sacrificed for each other and have helped each other become better!

I have a hard decision to make September 20th! (If you haven't entered the contest you can e-mail me until September 15th. That's just 10 days from now. But beware..the competition is fierce.)

I am amazed that one couple started a charity, another couple will match every dollar they spend on their Wedding by giving to a charity, another couple has overcome time and distance to be together...the list goes on. The five couples who have applied definetly represent True Love and I wish I could shoot everyone's Wedding for Free. I am very thankful that all their friends and family will be voting for them and that I don't have to make the final choice.

Beautiful Cakes by K & Z Signature Cakes and Details

This last Saturday I was able to shoot pictures of beautiful cakes by K & Z Signature Cakes at the Longerberger Golf Club.

I love how much attention to detail Kim puts into her cakes.

ooohhh...I want to show you something. Maybe you've already seen this trend, but this was the first time I did. I walked into the reception room and saw the room decorated in black and white. I found out that these colors are the latest trend and not just for goth couples or those who loath the classic fairy tail wedding.

After looking at the details, I think it looks sophisticated and unique.

Nothing goth about this.

I love this vase!

The lighting is so warm.

(Here's a little tip if you are looking for the best pictures ever! Ok, you put so much attention into every detail, make it a point to see it in your pictures during your reception! How? See how the bride put up the translucent drapes and the lights behind it and added the candles: add lighting! Also think about low ceilings so that bounce flashes can light up a face and keep the background visible. You can also think about the time of day. If you have your wedding early then you can have your reception in the middle of the day under a beautiful tent outdoors or in a room full of windows. People will look so beautiful in pictures along with your details if you think about properly lighting your room.)

Here is a picture I love!

What do I love about it?

The dynamic lighting.
The love in the boy's face and the passion in the dad's kiss.
I love the colors. It really turned out nicely.

When I scheduled the family session with one of my best friends, Rachel, I wanted to give her time to prepare so I didn't set it too early. I wanted to start at 8 am because the sun light is golden and there are no harsh shadows on faces but since I have three kids and I know how I look when I first wake up, I decided 10 am wouldn't be too late.

I was a little anxious so I prayed for wisdom and perfect lighting during the shot. I am really thankful that the session went so well and we found some places with good lighting in our little park. I am so grateful that I have a God who can make the impossible, possible.

Many newly engaged couples can feel overwhelmed when choosing a Wedding Photographer. Here's my Keep it Simple guide:

Always get the best of everything within your price range. After spending time and artistic energy shooting your Wedding does your photographer edit and enhance your priceless pictures. Expect to pay for the product and experience you want.
Look for a photographer who's artistic style you love. It is so much fun to see so many amazing Wedding shots on the internet. Just spend time browsing the pictures on blogs. You couldn't spend a $10,000 to buy a Picasso or Rembrant, but you are able to spend under $10,000 for a talented photographer. (Even if you have to fly the person in, it is worth it if you love their images!) These are pictures that you can display on your walls as beautiful art not just for documentation of an event and to have boring posed shots in an album.
Look for a photographer who's personality works well with yours. You can discover this by reading blogs, meeting over coffee and at the engagement session or bridal portraits. If you feel like you don't have the same vision for the pictures or that you can't work together, it is better to avoid a head ache and clashing on your Wedding Day.
Choose a professional who is prepared for any weather or any equipment malfuntion and follows through with beautiful quality prints. This is often why many photographers have to charge so much. Lenses can cost up to $3,000 and the camera body can cost more. A professional photographer will have more than one lens and a back up camera too. Wouldn't it be horrible if your photographer's camera dropped as you were walking down the aisle and they didn't have a back up? Even though you paid for them, they couldn't deliver. What if the weather is horrible and the photographer doesn't know about indoor lighting and your pictures turned out orange because they didn't know how to change the ISO or they didn't bring an indirect flash and your pictures turn out with black backgrounds and over exposed faces? What if your photographer sold you or just gave you the CD with unedited images and you printed them at Walgreens and the quality was poor with dark images because the store's printer wasn't calibrated to the photographer's screen on their camera? Using professional printers and quality albums are more expensive than just printing at a drug store. You can expect a professional to follow through with excellence even if you have to pay a little more for them.
